The division of Student Life since 2016 has been without a senior leader at the cabinet level that has ***direct professional experience in the field of student affairs.*** With all due respect, Provost Weber served from 2016-2019, but does not have any professional student affairs experience. He was an engineering background, experience as an academic administrator, not student affairs, and was appointed by the president without a national search. View #17528 Download #17528 in PDF format
Russ Crispell As a recent retiree from UB, what can I and other retirees do to help deal with the racial injustices that has been so evident at this University? Secondly, a program that I was so proud to oversee that exposed a large number of black, brown and international students to an on-campus outdoor recreation programming (6000 + users each year) was recently eliminated. As part of the UB 2020 plan, this programming serviced the needs of on-campus students and should somehow be brought back View #17527 Download #17527 in PDF format
The division of Student Life since 2016 has been without a senior leader at the cabinet level that has direct professional experience in the field of student affairs. The Student Life division includes the Intercultural and Diversity Center, the home to "space" for "diverse students" and the campus unit primarily charged with diversity programming and education. What resources will UB provide to the IDC to make it an exceptional resource for students and when will UB announce a national search for a new Vice President for Student Life that can effectively and exceptionally lead the Student Life division? Joseph I can empathize with the topic of discussion for this forum. We are living in very racially charged times and that presents an opportunity to reflect and assess where we can improve, individually as well as institutionally. With that said, the premise of this forum is troubling. Statements asserting that there is "systemic racism in our campus" or there is "anti-Blackness" need to be substantiated in order to be properly addressed. If it is a known fact that the University is championing racist policies and practices, how is this not already being addressed? My questions are- What are the specific racist policies in place on campus? If there are racist policies, who is supporting them? I have a degree from UB and in my experience as a student I enjoyed and benefited from the diversity of the campus. I want to see the University and its students prosper moving forward, championing critical thinking, rigorously challenging ideas and seeking truth. View #17503 Download #17503 in PDF format
